Food Safety Doesn't Have to Be Boring

Food safety training works best when people engage with it. Here's why making it fun improves retention and compliance.

Let's be honest.

Nobody walks into work excited about temperature logs.

Nobody says:

"I can't wait to review proper cooling procedures today."

And yet food safety matters.

A lot.

The challenge isn't getting people to understand that food safety is important.

The challenge is getting people to remember it.

People Remember Stories

Ask a group of cooks about:

  • proper handwashing procedures

You might get blank stares.

Ask them about the guy who touched raw chicken and then grabbed the hamburger buns?

Everyone remembers that story.

Training Doesn't Have to Feel Like School

I've found people learn best when:

  • they laugh

  • they participate

  • they tell stories

  • they solve problems together

Food safety isn't boring.

The way we sometimes teach it is.

Final Thought

Food safety is serious.

Training should still be fun.

Because people remember what they enjoy.
