A Menu Should Tell a Story — Not Just List Food

One thing I don’t think we talk about enough:

A menu isn’t inventory.

It’s a story.

Or at least it should be.

Menus should communicate identity, not just inventory. Great menus tell a story.

What Does Your Menu Say About You?

Does it say:

comfort?
craft?
local?
bold?
playful?
heritage?

Or does it just… list food?

Because those are very different things.

Story Creates Value

When food has context, it matters more.

A roasted chicken is one thing.

A roasted chicken inspired by Sunday suppers growing up in Wisconsin?

Different story.

Different connection.

Menu Engineering and Storytelling Belong Together

Profit matters.

But story sells too.

Sometimes better.

Final Thought

Guests don’t just buy dishes.

They buy stories.
